Jul. 8th, 2005 10:44 pmYes, I'm still alive. All I've been doing lately is working, and replaying Wizardry 8. Oh, I did reread "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", but that only took a couple of hours, so it wasn't that big a drain on my spare time. I went back to the doctor on Wednesday, and he said that my arm has healed to the point where he no longer feels comfortable performing surgery on me, and that the only thing he can do for me is to recommend that I find a job where I'm not doing repetitive lifting/scanning so as not to aggravate it. I've not had any luck with that either.
Other than that things have been boring. I was invited to a party on the 4th, but when I got home from work I was just too tired to go out. I really wish I had though, I mean it's not often that I get invited to anything. I was also invited to a party this weekend, but I'm not going to it either. Apparently it's just going to be a few people, and I won't know anyone, so I've declined to go.
Next week I get to work as the DSD receiver at Food Lion. That probably doesn't mean anything to you, but it is kind of weird when you think about it. The DSD receiver is part of the grocery department, and is responsible for checking in all the vendors who make deliveries to our store. Of course, as you may recall, I'm the assistant customer service manager, which means my job is on the front-end of the store, trying not to kill my cashiers for being hungover.
So the question is, how did I end up being the DSD receiver? Well, it's like this. The deli manager is on vacation next week. The DSD receiver, who used to work in the deli, is covering for her. The store manager is on vacation, so the two assistant managers are covering for him (yes, they are that useless that it takes two of them). The HBA clerk, who helps out with the DSD receiving, is out having surgery. So the only person in the store who has any clue what to do as DSD receiver would be me (after all, I did train the last two receivers on how to use their Pocket PCs, and I think I've taken the DSD receiver training course during one of my lunch breaks).
On the one hand, that does mean that I'll get a few days of not having to deal with the front-end. On the other hand, I really don't like doing receiving. The vendors are pretty staggered throughout the day, and I'm supposed to be "productive" during the down times by cleaning the back, or filling up candy, or filling up cigarettes. Heck, I'm supposed to order the cigarettes and candy next week, which is a scary thought indeed.
Anyway, I have the rest of the weekend off, so I might as well enjoy it. Not that I have anything to do, other than maybe get around to cleaning my room. Yay!
