I baked chocolate chip cookies today. Yes, they were from a pouch, but I still baked them myself. And I didn't burn a single one! Yay me!
In Christmas news, I've now spent nearly half of one-month's salary on Christmas gifts. If you want something, speak now before I'm totally out of money ;)

Date: 2004-02-25 02:00 pm (UTC)1. The Dollar Tree- every item is $1 or even 2 or 4 for a dollar. there are toys, candy, cards, gift bags, party items, bath sets, scrunchies, small fish bowls... all sorts of things for only a dollar. plus, some people think that the little goofy gift, when it's well thought out, is better than an expensive gift that is crappy.
2. the thrift stores- similar situation with goofy cheap things, but it's more like searching for treasure. you have to go often, because the items change constantly. the best gift my ex ever gave me was a giant necklace with jingle bells and chimes that he found at the thrift store. he even included matching earrings. this necklace is soooo big that it goes halfway down my chest. it's not something that i wear often, but it's the sweetest thing he ever did. well, i also enjoyed the fact that he bought me a Barbie as Rapunzel poster and UHF on dvd for me on my 16th birthday.
also, when i'm out of cash, even for The Dollar Tree and the thrift stores, i make things. it's a bit harder to do, but such gifts hold sacred memories. when i was little, if it was raining during recess, our teacher would keep us in the classroom and we'd make crafts. so i took an empty applesauce snack container and taped peach coloured lace around the outside. then, because i would always eat fortune cookies for snacks, i taped a fortune cookie fortune on the outside of the snack cup. i added some bird stickers, too. anyway, the fortune said, "The future holds great things for you." i still have it around, because that was one of the sweetest things i've ever made.
oh, and the main reason i do all of the above, is because i'm cheap and want things for myself. my friends' valentine's day gifts were tiny travel bottles filled with extra shampoo i had left over from not finishing off other bottles.
